A sugar-free and healthy alternative to the junk-loaded commercial chocolate cereals. If your kids are already eating the supermarket ones, they may never go for this. But if you give them this at the first sign of pleading for the evil stuff, they will not know any different. Until they start having sleepovers.
And yes, it does leave a chocolate milkshake at the end!
- 2 cups puffed brown rice, or other puffed whole grain (from health food shop or health section of supermarket)
- 1/2 cup oats
- 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, pounded in a mortar and pestle, or 1 tablespoon LSA mix
- 3 tablespoons rice malt syrup (from health food shops or health section of supermarket)
- 1 tablespoon good quality cocoa
Preheat oven to 180 degrees
Put the rice malt syrup into a bowl or jug and microwave for about 20 seconds, until its runny and easy to pour.
Put all the of the other ingredients in a bowl and mix. Pour over the honey/rice malt syrup and combine thoroughly.
Spread mixture into a non-stick baking dish and bake for 15-20 minutes, stirring around once through the cooking. Take care not to overcook, as the mixture is quite dark its hard to tell if its starting to burn.
Allow to cool slightly, then place in an airtight container, leaving the lid off until completely cooled, then seal.
